CT scan data was imported into Mimics to segment out the pelvis and proximal portion of the femurs. Masks and growing-region-effects were useful in differentiating each distinct bone as it’s own 3D object.

3dsMax can convert Mimics STL file types into a more workable OBJ file type.

The OBJ is brought into Zbrush and split into separate tools along polygroups so that every bone is it’s own tool—as a result of making each bone its own model in Mimics.
The tools are retopologized and a base, low-poly count is achieved. Secondary form sculpting can begin.

These are the various alphas used to create the realistic bone texture. These alphas were custom made by photographing an actual pelvis and paying attention to the multitude of textures present.
