I developed a quick color study in preparation for the final illustration and bought a pigs heart from a butcher. This study helped capture a sense of organic material and texture in the final image.

Blocking in color and light values. Custom textures were developed and applied to the image with various layering effects.

Finalized image. Graphic elements were developed to visually summarize the corresponding text.
